Launching in early access in 2021, Vampire Survivors really blew up in popularity throughout 2022, earning much acclaim and becoming one of the biggest indie sensations of the year. Despite pitting players against an endless onslaught of undead enemies, the game has been praised for its quick and casual gameplay, colorful pixel visuals, and variety of content, often enticing players into going for one more run.

In a recent Steam blog, Galante looked back on all the milestones and achievements he and the team behind Vampire Survivors, also known as poncle, achieved in the past year. Amid all that, he also touched upon their plans for additional content, stating that fans can expect new DLC packs in the vein of Vampire Survivors’ Legacy of the Moonspell DLC. That add-on was released last month and introduced a new stage, eight playable characters, new enemies, and more, so odds are subsequent DLCs will feature similar amounts of fresh content.
New add-ons will likely be priced similarly to Legacy of the Moonspell as well, which costs $1.99. While that’s rather affordable, especially given the base game retails for a low $4.99, it may still be more than some players can or are willing to spend. Luckily for them, Galante made it clear that paid content will only consist of bonus content like new characters, weapons, and stages. All major updates for Vampire Survivors that introduce new features and gameplay mechanics will be free, and Galante promised that “no key-feature will ever be gatekept by a paywall.”
As for when fans may start seeing new content, he didn’t say, but did confirm that patches will likely be released at a “slower pace compared to 2022.” After a hectic year launching the game in early access, releasing version 1.0 for PC, Xbox, and mobile, and debuting its first DLC, the team at poncle needs to “swap to a more sustainable release pipeline” in addition to coordinate patches between all the different platforms the game’s now on. It may be a bit of a wait before the next big round of content arrives.
That said, Galante teased that “something weird and big” will be coming to the Steam public-beta soon. He also said that there’s “a lot of stuff” in the works at poncle that’s “not exclusively related to Vampire Survivors.” Whether that means a spin-off of the hit roguelike or an entirely separate project remains to be seen, but with how popular Vampire Survivors has become, it’s safe to say plenty of people are now eager to see what the studio will cook up next.
