Today, in a press release via Rockstar Newswire, the game developer is announcing that consoles will also be receiving the wholly original songs for Grand Theft Auto Online when the free DLC entitled Ill-Gotten Gains Update: Part Two drops in July. And should fans of the game’s music wish to pick up a physical copy of the collection, Welcome to Los Santos will be available on vinyl next week.
The compilation contains a bevy of musicians and genres representing rock, electronica, and hip-hop, including TV on the Radio’s Babatunde Adebimpe, Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring, Phantogram, Little Dragon, Earl Sweatshirt, Freddie Gibbs, Killer Mike, and more. The music plays on Grand Theft Auto V’s in-game radio station known as “The Lab”, which is hosted by the cheekily named Doctor No and Chemical Bro, who are respectively known as the aforementioned Oh No and Alchemist in real life.
While there are no supplementary gameplay details to speak of besides the inclusion of a fresh soundtrack, it’s safe to infer that the updates for GTA Online will be similar to the Ill-Gotten Gains: Part One DLC with new and expensive items such as deadlier guns, faster/tougher vehicles, and a covey of clothing items and accessories at exclusive clothiers. Although particulars are scarce, the additions will certainly be welcome for those gamers trying to spice up their heist missions. And even if players don’t like the content, complaining should be non-existent since the it’ll all be free.
With Grand Theft Auto V having been out almost two years now, the timing of these releases couldn’t be better, as most fans tend to have downtime during the summer and will very likely revisit older titles, mainly due to the fact that there aren’t a lot of new games being released. However, should some players not be interested in Rockstar Games’ attempts to refresh its title for added replay value, there’s always a world of absurdly-crafted mods to fill the void.
Grand Theft Auto Online’s Ill-Gotten Gains: Part One is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, while Ill-Gotten Gains: Part Two comes out this July.
