The short minute-and-a-half featurette from Marvel Studios begins with a close-up of Isaac as he transforms into Moon Knight. “The fun of Moon Knight is getting introduced to a new superhero in a new world,” says Ethan Hawk, who plays series antagonist Arthur Harrow. Isaac then calls the series a “real legitimate character study” as we see clips of his character traversing the globe from London to Cairo. The featurette then moves on to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who calls Moon Knight “a spectacular character” with an “incredibly unique visual look.”

Isaac also comments on the character’s split personality, saying that they “ultimately wanted to take the mental health aspect of it incredibly seriously.” Series director Mohamed Diab highlights this, saying, “the way we’re tackling the story, we learn about Steven, then we learn about Mark, and they’re the same person.” Actress May Calamawy refers to the series as “Fight Club meets Indiana Jones,” and finally, the featurette ends with Isaac telling us that the Moon Knight will be “totally unpredictable.”
Moon Knight is definitely one of the more interesting upcoming projects on Marvel Studios slate. The multimedia franchise has been taking a lot of swings in its most recent phase, exploring new genres and storytelling structures. This is especially true of Marvel Studios’ original programming on Disney Plus, including the genre-defying WandaVision and the mind-bending adventures of Loki. With Moon Knight, Marvel Studios appears to be delving into the supernatural, while also taking a much darker approach to the material than previous movies and tv shows.
Recently, Fiege even called the upcoming series “brutal,” saying that it’s not holding back. Some fans were skeptical of this claim, as the series is still streaming on the family-friendly Disney Plus. That being said, the streaming giant recently acquired the previously canceled Marvel Netflix shows, including Daredevil and The Punisher, which were notoriously far more violent and darker than other Marvel projects. Either way, Moon knight looks to be something completely different for the MCU.
Disney Plus has no shortage of original projects on its slate. The streaming service recently dropped the first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is set to premiere in May 2022. Fans recently got their first look at actress Tatiana Maslany as the Marvel hero She-Hulk, which is also set to premiere sometime this year. On top of all that, there are also MANY upcoming Marvel Studios TV shows on the horizon, including Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, the Agatha Harkness spinoff series, and confirmed second seasons for both Loki and the animated series What If…?
Moon Knight premieres exclusively on Disney Plus on March 30th, 2022.
