In total there are 6 Palico gadgets in Monster Hunter World and all are fairly useful. Some are definitely more popular than others, but it is imperative that players acquire each new Palico gadget as soon as they can. Here’s how to get them all.
1. Vigorwasp Spray
The Vigorwasp Spray duplicates the effect of the native Vigorwasp, which releases a burst of energy that heals the player for a percentage of their health. This Palico gadget is unlocked from the beginning of Monster Hunter World and is essential until players start understanding material farming and crafting for healing items.
2. Flashfly Cage
The Flashfly Cage releases a Flashfly that the player can strike and stun any nearby enemies. While stunned, monsters will be vulnerable to major damage, so make sure to time the Flashfly stun.
To unlock the Flashfly Cage, players will need to follow the Grimalkynes doodles up into the trees. One of the Grimalkynes (cats) will run away and the player will need to catch it. Doing so will unlock the Flashfly Cage back at Astara.
3. Shieldspire
Shieldspire is an ability that blocks incoming damage towards the Palico while also drawing aggro from any nearby monsters. This gadget is useful for monsters that are weak in the back, as the Shieldspire gives players an opportunity to sneak behind and damage the monster.
The Shieldspire unlock quest is activated in zone 8 where some Grimalkynes are hiding. They will ask the player to collect 3 protectors scattered around the Wildspire Waste. Luckily, they are marked on the map so just run up to them and fire your net.
4. Coral Orchestra
Coral Orchestra is a musical instrument that buffs the player’s attack, defense, and resistances for a period of time. If your Monster Hunter World build is very DPS focused then the Coral Orchestra might be the best option. It allows the player to get in, do massive damage, tank a few hits, and then get out.
The quest for the Coral Orchestra activates after killing the Shamos in zone 10 of the Coral Highlands. The Grimalkynes will give the player a task to kill or capture two Tzitzi-Ya-Ku monsters, the dilophosaurus looking monster that uses its facial “wings” to stun anything in front of it. Finish off two of them and then return to the cats for the Coral Orchestra Palico gadget.
5. Plunderblade
The Plunderblade is the farming players’ ideal item since it takes extra materials from monsters during battle.
Players will need to witness an Odogaron carrying a dead Legania in zone 13 of the Rotten Vale. Enter the cave to see one of the Grimalkynes hiding from danger. Use a piece of meat to lure it out and unlock the Plunderblade.
6. Meowlotov Cocktail
The final Palico gadget in Monster Hunter World is the Meowlotov Cocktail, which functions exactly like you might think. The Palico throws it on a monster and it does sustained damage for a time.
Once the player gains access to the Elder’s Recess they will need to sneak through the entire area and talk to the Grimalkyne leader. It will give the player the Meowlotov Cocktail and send them on their way.
Like many items in Monster Hunter World, the Palico gadgets are not thoroughly explained by the game, but they are an important aspect of the gameplay. Learning which ones do what can help the player depending on the situation and the opponent.
Monster Hunter World is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
