Lunastra is an Elder Dragon, and unlike Kulve Taroth, which was recently introduced into Monster Hunter World, Lunastra is a returning Elder Dragon, who originally appeared in the series’ 2006 installment, Monster Hunter 2. Lunastra is commonly known as “the Empress of Flame,” and she is the counterpart of Teostra.
With the arrival of Lunastra, players can also look forward to being able to craft two new armor sets, namely Lunastra α and Lunastra β. Players that manage to defeat Lunastra will also be able to forge new weapons, as well as a set of Palico gear using the material they gather from the Elder Dragon. The Lunastra armor works especially well with armor crafted from the monsters Nergigante and Xeno’jiiva.
Capcom commented in its official blog that “Not only is [Lunastra] more aggressive than her male companion Teostra, but her capacity to alter the environment around her is unmatched.” In addition to that, according to Capcom, “the Empress of Flame returns with new tricks and unique abilities to challenge even the most seasoned hunters.” Many Monster Hunter World players have already encountered Lunastra after the recent update, and many of them vouch for the toughness of the Elder Dragon, saying that she is indeed a challenge to beat.
In addition to Lunastra, the 4.0 update for Monster Hunter World includes a number of changes and improvements. Most notably, players will now be able to unlock tempered monster investigations while hunting tempered monsters and breaking their parts. Previously, players had to go about tempered investigation farming in a roundabout way, but now things are more straightforward. Read the full update 4.0 patch notes here.
Capcom further teased that it will also introduce “Arch-Tempered Elder Dragons,” which are even more powerful variants of the Tempered Elder Dragons, so players should stay tuned. The introduction of these powerful monsters in the game are certainly keeping players hooked on this addictive RPG, and we look forward to seeing which powerful monsters Capcom will introduce next.
Monster Hunter World is now available for PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC version set to be released this fall.
