When the demo was released on the Switch eShop, there were so many players trying to download it simultaneously. This caused a major slowdown and strain on the digital shop’s servers. And not only was it difficult for fans to download the demo, but once players tried to connect online with randoms or friends, there were instances of lag. Even if a Switch player were to restart their internet or the game itself, the issue would persist.

But it turns out that the lag might be caused by a glitch in the Switch system, specifically related to a user’s friends list. In a video uploaded by YouTube channel NextN, they tested the demo with multiple accounts to see if there would be a difference in the online gameplay depending on the number of friends. After switching from an account with 252 friends to an account with 158 friends, and then an account with no friends at all, it seems that the more friends that a person has, the more likely it is for lag to occur.

How to Remove Friends from Switch Friends List

For Monster Hunter fans experiencing lag issues in the newly released Switch demo for Rise, removing some friends from your list could be a potential solution, at least for the time being. To do so, open the profile page on the Switch home menu and then click on Friend List. Simply press on the friend’s profile that needs removing and then hit Options. Switch owners can remove as many of their friends as they would like to.

This lag issue might only be present in Monster Hunter Rise’s demo, so for the fans who are willing to wait for the full release, standing by until March might be the best option here. Capcom will likely have this lag issue fixed by then.

Monster Hunter Rise will launch as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on March 26, 2021. However, according to a recent Capcom leak, the latest entry in the long-running action-RPG franchise could potentially see a release on PC as well, shortly after the Switch version comes out. The PC port will reportedly allow players to choose between several different visual modes, such as a 30fps or 60fps option.
