Each Hunting Horn comes with its own set of melodies that can be performed when it’s equipped during a quest. To perform melodies, hunters need to perform the correct sequence of notes. Attacks with the X button will produce blue notes, the A button creates red notes, and X+A attacks make green notes. When the correct notes for a melody are lined up on the Musical Staff, the melody will play automatically, and the entire party will receive the benefits. These are the basics for getting started with the weapon, but there are more Hunting Horn combos and moves to master.

How to Use Sonic Barrier Melody in Monster Hunter Rise
To use Sonic Barrier, players should change weapons in Monster Hunter Rise to a Hunting Horn that lists it as one of its Melody Effects. The following Hunting Horns and their upgraded forms are all capable of using the Sonic Barrier Melody:
Basarios Rock Zurogong Primo Sinister Strum Azure Elder Horn Magia Charm Grass Flute
Players must use the correct sequence of notes to perform Sonic Barrier. The notes can differ from weapon to weapon. The Basarios Rock and Magia Charm will perform Sonic Barrier with two red notes (A button presses). Zurogong Primo, Azure Elder Horn, and Grass Flute are two green notes (X+A button presses). And for the Sinister Strum, players will need two blue notes (X button presses) to produce a Sonic Barrier.
What Does Sonic Barrier Melody Do in Monster Hunter Rise
The Sonic Barrier Melody temporarily creates a barrier of sound that negates knockback once. This means that aggressive hunters can complete their attack combos without being interrupted by monster actions. It may only negate one knockback, but a team of hunters with a dedicated Hunting Horn user can attack relentlessly if the melody is continuously played over and over in succession.
Couple that with a good Hunting Horn build, which includes effects such as healing or Defense Up, and there’ll be nothing to stop the party from overpowering a fearsome monster without any fear or hesitation.
With practice, Hunting Horn users can use their Melodies to boost their party into an unstoppable force. There’s more to hunting than just that, though. Players will want to use decorations to truly get the most out of their Hunting Horn or any other weapon. After learning how to get Lazurite Jewels and mastering other hunting techniques, there will be no quest that the experienced hunter can’t handle.
Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC port is expected to release in early 2022.
