Skilled hunters know that the various endemic life inhabiting a hunting ground in Monster Hunter Rise can be utilized to aid in hunts. Some endemic life, however, exists purely for the sake of mystery and discovery. There are a number of areas and secrets that are hidden, just waiting to be found by inquisitive players. Among them are the “rare creatures” that can be found on each map. Players who want to complete their Hunter’s Notes will want to find the Snow-faced Fox in the Shrine Ruins.

The Snow-faced Fox is a mystical creature that appears to have nine tails. It only shows up at night, so the best chance to lay eyes on it is to embark on an Expedition to find endemic life in the Shrine Ruins and indicate that it should be a nighttime venture. The fox perches itself atop a gate located high in the rocky peaks near area 5 of the map. Clever use of Great Wirebugs can get a hunter up to high terrain in no time.
There is no guarantee that the Snow-faced Fox will be waiting for hunters atop the gate, even if they visit at night. Some patience and perseverance may be necessary. For those lucky enough to encounter the rare creature, they will have the chance to interact and enjoy the company of a playful new friend. Afterwards, knowledge of the Snow-faced Fox will be added to the Hunter’s Notes.
Like all monsters, creatures, and endemic life, it is possible to snap a picture of the Snow-faced Fox and display the photo in one’s own Hunter’s Notes. It’s also possible to display the photo in the personal room back in Kamura Village. Using the Camera Mode, players can get the perfect shot of the Snow-faced Fox. The Camera Mode allows for a third-person view too, so hunters should pose and gesture to their heart’s content to get the best selfie possible with the elusive creature. Once the photo is in the Album, it’s even possible to add in-game filters to the screenshot.
Players who are curious enough to search for the Snow-faced Fox will likely be interested in exploring as much as possible in Monster Hunter Rise. There are five unique maps to uncover, and the Shrine Ruins alone hides enough secrets to satisfy any completionist out there. Hunters who want to check out every nook and cranny of the environment should start by finding the various sub-camps. Using camps as fast travel points will make hunting and exploring much easier in the long run.
Monster Hunter Rise is now available for the Nintendo Switch. A PC release is slated for 2022.
